Update: HEI Hotels & Resorts Named ENERGY STAR Partner of the YearAugust 2011
In January, Four Seasons Environmental, Inc. brought you a story about HEI Hotels & Resorts' commitment to energy management. This month, we are excited to announce that HEI Hotel & Resorts has been named ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year for outstanding energy management and reductions in greenhouse gas emissions for the second consecutive year!
This prestigious award, which is awarded by the United States Environmental Protection Agency, recognizes efforts to use energy efficiently in facility operations and to overall integrate superior energy management.
In a press release, Gary Mendell, HEI's chairman and chief executive officer, says, "While sustainability is the latest 'in' thing for some companies, HEI truly believes in the importance of this issue, from both an environmental and business perspective."
This dedication is clear through its hard work and implementation of a number of energy-saving initiatives, such as its retro-commissioning project with FSE, company-wide awareness programs, a manager-orientation program that focuses on energy conservation, and setting benchmarks for energy and waste reduction.
These measures have certainly paid off: In 2010, HEI's company-wide energy consumption decreased by 6.2 percent compared to the same period in 2009.
"I have been very impressed with the caliber and expertise of the staff at HEI," says Ken Yockey, facilities performance engineer for FSE. "All of the people are very focused on achieving the energy goals and reducing the amount of energy consumed in each of the facilities."
The Partner of the Year Awards is an annual recognition of organizations that have made outstanding contributions in protecting the environment through energy efficiency. Award winners are selected from thousands of organizations that participate in the ENERGY STAR program.
