FSE Initiates Caring Coworkers Fund

November 2018

At FSE, we pride ourselves in being more like a family than a company. Like a true family, despite being spread out across the country, we come together to celebrate and rejoice in one anothers' successes. It is also important that we support each other in times of hardship.

With this goal in mind, FSE is initiating the Caring Coworkers Fund to help our fellow coworkers in their time of need. The Caring Coworkers Fund will provide coworkers and their immediate families with financial assistance during times of emergency or difficult situations.

"We want to help our fellow coworkers when they're in need," says Christel Skorup of Human Resources, "whether they need help paying for groceries that week or an unexpected medical bill."

How it Works:
Any FSE employee who is experiencing a financial burden/emergency may complete an application for relief from the Caring Coworkers Fund and submit it to the Corporate Chaplain, Rich Femia. Rich, who is the only FSE employee who will know the identity of the applicant, will remove the name/identifying information from the application and then provide it to the Fund Committee for review and decision. The Fund Committee, which is made up of four anonymous FSE employees, must arrive at a simple majority for approval. Rich will notify the employee about the Fund Committee's decision.

"The fund will initially be funded by FSE owners," explains Christel, "but we are encouraging all FSE employees to contribute to the fund, when they are able, to help lift up their fellow coworkers in times of need." Additionally, FSE will match employee contributions, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000. That means, if each FSE employee donates $1 a week, at the end of the first year, the fund would have more than $28,000. "It's amazing that $1 a week can go such a long way in helping our fellow coworkers when during their time of need."

Donations can be made as a one-time contribution or as a weekly deduction from your paycheck. Donations can also be made, by check, to Four Seasons Environmental, Inc. - simply put "Caring Coworkers Fund" in the memo. Please note that donations are not tax deductible.

"Jesus said the two greatest commandments are 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength' and 'Love your neighbor as yourself,'" Rich recalls. "I think all of us would want someone to help us in our time of need, so let us all truly consider helping our fellow workers by giving to the Caring Coworkers Fund, not out of obligation but out of love."

Each request is made on a case-by-case basis. It can include anything from needing a winter coat to help paying rent or utilities. In general, assistance will be paid directly to the requestors' service providers (rent, mortgage, utilities, etc) and not the FSE employee. The fund account must have sufficient funds available before requests are approved.
